RPL – Recognition of Prior Learning

RPL – Recognition of Prior LearningYour experience reflected in a qualification

What is RPL?

Recognition of prior learning, or RPL, is a way of assessing what you already know. Your work history, community involvement, and life experience all give you valuable skills and knowledge that you can gain recognition for.  This means that you might not have to study at all.

Sometimes people don’t know that it’s available, and spend months and thousands of dollars ‘learning’ what they’ve been doing for years. Talk to us first! A qualified assessor will look at your experience and work samples, to determine whether or not you already meet all the requirements for a qualification.

Who should consider RPL?

RPL is for you if have experience, but no ‘piece of paper’. Most people want to have their skills and experience formally recognised and validated. Business owners enjoy increased credibility. A qualification can be beneficial if you are applying for a new job or a promotion. It looks really good on your CV and LinkedIn profile, especially if your ‘Education’ section is a bit empty. A qualification also helps your application for certain organisations, or government roles. You may even be able to use it as credit for further study, such as a university degree, just check with the education provider first.

If you have been managing people and systems, you are likely to be eligible for a Diploma of Management. Many business owners and managers are eligible for a dual qualification, with both the Diploma of Business and Diploma of Management. If you have experience in administration or customer service, you are likely to be eligible for a Certificate IV in Business or Certificate IV in Business Administration. Even if you’re not able to get the whole qualification, you may still be able to get part of it.

Why choose Mirror Professional Development?

There aren’t a lot of RPL providers, and the RTO’s (registered training organisations) that do offer RPL don’t usually specialise in it. Some have you pay upfront.  Some make you do all the work. Some hide away and never know you or your situation. Some don’t actually issue a qualification, just gather your evidence and make recommendations. Here’s what we do:

Find out about your skills and knowledge, then match that with the most appropriate qualification for you with electives that fit your experience.

Provide you with a list of documents to submit in a portfolio of evidence. This is usually about 8-12 documents that you will already have. Each person is different.

Complete all the assessment and paperwork for you. You don’t have to do any.

Issue you with nationally accredited and recognised qualifications.

All this is done by phone and email, anywhere in Australia.

If your evidence and payment is ready, you can receive your qualification in as little as 10 days.

In addition, Mirror Professional Development is a small business. You won’t get lost in a maze of forms and different staff. We make it easy. We actually want to talk to you, any time, and are here to help.
